This play speaks to the thematic nature of modern romance and the impact that mass media has had on the traditional views of marriage and relationships.. The play maturely looks at how the modern media, specifically TV, has altered and ruined the idea of the "traditional" or monogamous relationship.
Dennis is a poet who reads and doesn't own a TV. He finds himself set adrift in a modern world of easy virtues and self gratifications when he discovers his wife is having an affair with one of her students.
The set was designed by Sara Walsh who incorporated TVs into the very fiber of the set. TVs were used as nightstands and tables in each of the four sets. There was no escape from their impact.
Our company commissioned a professional videographer to create a composite video of the icons from the world of mass media. Portions of this video were played on the TVs during set changes. The audience then was mesmerized by the same images as the characters.
