The Production:

Starting this past January, DTP sponsored it's fifth annual playwriting competition that brought in scripts from around the world! Submitted scripts were to be in the vein of the Rod Serling TV series Twilight Zone and Night Gallery.

The stories in those shows were dark and twisted tales of the macabre that spoke thematically on what it meant to be human.

This is the FINALIST phase of “Darknight Gallery.” We've narrowed our script search down to a final six scripts. Each of these six finalists will be assigned a director and a cast. These scripts will be rehearsed and performed in a ten to fifteen minute teaser version of the script on Saturday, May 31 at UIC theatre as a fundraiser for DTP. The audience that evening will vote for their favorite script. The three scripts that receive the most votes will then be produced in their entirety and presented at UIC and opening July 18 for a five week run.

We are currently looking for actors for the one-day event. Your participation in the one-day event DOES NOT obligate you nor guarantee that you will be involved in the full run production.

The Characters:

We're looking for approximately thirty actors who look to be at least in their early to late twenties or older to fill the roles needed in these scripts. All races are needed.

The Auditions :

Auditions for the one-day event will be held in the evenings on Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20.

The Callbacks :

Callbacks are not anticipated for this production.

Casting:

All casting will be done through emails and phone calls that will be completed by Monday, May 26.

Rehearsals:

The rehearsal & the performance will be held at UIC theatre located at 1044 W. Harrison. Saturday, May 31 will be the only day of rehearsal. Rehearsal will begin with a company meeting Saturday morning at 8:00 AM Those actors selected do need to be prompt as there is a lot to do and not much time. Because each script will only be fifteen minutes, lines and blocking are to be memorized and then polished for performance. Since the focus of this rehearsal/performance is the script, there will be minimal props, costumes, or set. The level of performance expected is that of a final rehearsal just before going into tech rehearsals. Actors will need to be available to rehearse the entire day of Saturday May 31 and perform it that evening. Breakfast and dinner will be provided by the company. Specifics for the entire schedule, including breaks and the performance order will be provided on Saturday, May 31.

Performances:

Each script will be performed once. The show begins Saturday evening at 8:00 PM. Tickets for the show will be available at the door for $10.00.

Compensation:

As this is a one-time performance and a fundraiser for our theatre company, there will be no comp tickets for this production.

Sound Exciting?

Here's what to do next. Call 708.492.0273 if you have any further questions or to set up your audition time. What you'll want to bring: headshot and resume, a memorized one to two minute contemporary monologue; you'll want to arrive about ten minutes early as there will be paperwork that needs to be filled out. Thank you for your interest!
