We appreciate your interest in “Darknight Gallery.”
“Darknight Gallery” was conceived as homage to the Rod Serling’s TV shows
Twilight Zone and Night Gallery. Both shows featured tales of the
strange or supernatural.
We’re currently in the process of filtering through the original scripts that
have been submitted to us for consideration for our fifth annual festival.
We will select six scripts that our
company feels have the potential to be exciting examples of live theatre.
We’re also looking for six directors who can work quickly with actors to
rehearse a ten to fifteen minute segment of these scripts and perform their
segment in an evening of theatre. The date for this event is
May 31 at
UIC. Directors must be available all day on the day of the event.
Directors must also be available to attend a meeting the week of
May 26. The specific date will be chosen based on the
availability of the selected directors. At the directors meeting, further
details of the event will be laid out. Directors will also be given their cast
and scripts at that time so they can prepare their approach to their script.
Directors and scripts will be randomly paired. We will do the best we can to
meet the casting needs of the scripts but we will be at the mercy of those who
come out to audition.
The rehearsal/performance process will begin at 8:00 AM Saturday morning of
May 31 when actors will be introduced to their directors. Directors will then have
all day to rehearse their actors to a polish and finish with performances at
8:00 PM that evening.
The audience will then vote for their favorite script. The top three vote
getting scripts will immediately go into rehearsal for production in late summer
at UIC. The three directors who rehearsed these scripts will have the option to
continue on with the script.
There will be very little technical support on this one-day event.
The focus of the day is on the script and the direction, not the technical
elements. There
may
be stage lights, a few props, a necessary costume or two and a necessary set
piece or two but there will be no sound available.
This will be a challenging day for all that are involved. We are looking for
directors who work well under pressure. The chosen directors must also be able
to communicate well and quickly with actors.
There is no pay for this event.
If you are excited by such a project, please
submit:
-a cover letter describing your
approach to directing
-and your directing resume to
darknight_theatrical@yahoo.com
Once we have received your cover letter and resume, we will email you a sample script along with a series of questions about the script. The intention of this audition process is to allow our company to get to know you as a director and how you approach a script. It is our hope that by asking a potential director to audition for the position that no one feels belittled or that they're being schooled but that they are being respected as potential candidates for a production that our company takes enormous pride in producing.
We want to find the best directors who are interested in working with us.
Thank you for your interest in our company and this production.
Please get your answers back to me by May
14.
Please feel free to send any additional questions to that email address as well.
We look forward to hearing from you.
